As you know, these are difficult times. The Assessor’s Office is a function of the financial system, and as a government agency is considered essential. Under Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s mandate, we have reduced our office staff. In order to maintain social distance, we will not be conducting on-site inspections with individual homeowners for informal reviews.
The Municipal Building is closed to the public. Exemption applications can be deposited in the drop box at the front door of City Hall or mailed to Assessor’s Office, One Locks Plaza, Lockport, N.Y. 14094. Due to the unusual circumstances this year, we are also accepting applications by email at sisrael@lockportny.gov or by fax at 716.439.6617. Please be sure to include a phone number or email address in case we need to contact you regarding your application. Also, if you have questions regarding your exemption applications, you may call our office at 716.439.6614. If there is no answer, be sure to leave a message so we can return your call.
Office personnel will also be on the road taking inventory for our records. We will be either in a clearly marked City of Lockport car or on the sidewalk maintaining social distancing with the public. If you have concerns, once again please call our office. Field work is a critical step in keeping our records up to date and as part of our process, we will also be verifying that every structure is numbered properly. If we find you do not have a number on your structure, we will be sending you a letter to advise you. We do not suggest you run out during the pandemic to purchase house numbers, but ask that you are mindful that proper numbering is an essential tool for 911 responders.
Below are photos of the personnel you can expect to be collecting data in your neighborhood.
