Lockport Mayor Michelle Roman has named Debra Allport to replace Kelly Van De Mark as the city’s Fourth Ward representative, effective Oct. 23.
Van De Mark, who is moving to the town of Lockport, recently resigned her council position. Mayor Roman, who must appoint a registered Republican to fill the seat, publicly asked for volunteers to fulfill the remainder of Van De Mark’s term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2021.
The mayor expressed appreciation to everyone who submitted resumes and sat for interviews for the post.
“Every person that has volunteered to step up and serve our community has great qualities, but I could only choose one for this appointment,” said Roman. “I encourage those not chosen to continue to be the great resources they’ve been.”
Allport and her husband, Michael, are longtime city residents, currently living on Lincoln Avenue. She recently retired from Niagara County after 42 years.
“She has a good working knowledge of our city, and will serve as a positive representative for the Fourth Ward,” the mayor added.
