Economic Development
The City of Lockport is committed to spurring economic development, creating jobs, and bettering the quality of life for residents and business owners alike. Lockport has spearheaded or supported many projects that have furthered this mission, including:
Restoration of the Erie Canal’s historic Flight of Five Locks is expected to draw more than 230,000 visitors annually and create $16 million in spending in Niagara County
Cornerstone Ice Arena, which offers two NHL-sized rinks and is expected to bring more than 150,000 people to downtown Lockport annually
Revitalization of Harrison Place, once a blighted eyesore that is now home to more than 30 businesses with 200 employees
Lockport Community Market, which is becoming a regional draw in Niagara County, and has brought renewed life and activity to Canal Street
Historic Palace Theatre which brings live entertainment to the city, with stage performances, youth programs and theatre school offered throughout the year
Organizations like the Greater Lockport Development Corporation and Lockport Main Street are paramount in our efforts to the continued development of the City of Lockport. We will work not just to optimize the impact of the above-mentioned efforts, but also to identify the next projects that will positively influence the future of Lockport and the region.
