City of Lockport 2019 Independence Day Celebration

In 2019, the City of Lockport will hold a two-day Independence Day Celebration, starting with the annual Independence Day Parade on July 3, followed by fireworks on July 4. Get all the details on this year’s celebration – and learn how to participate – below.

Parade Route

This year’s parade will start at 7 p.m., beginning at Ida B. Fritz Park and traveling along Main Street, ending at Washburn Street. 

Join the Celebration

Following the parade area businesses and organizations are invited to set up a booth or host activities on Canal Street.

To apply for participation in the 2019 City of Lockport Independence Day Parade OR to set up after the parade, complete the form to the right in full.

This should include information on your business or organization, a contact name and phone number, and information about any vehicle being used for floats or other displays.

Participant Information

Groups are asked to check in with parade officials at the Navy Marine Club (Park Avenue, the Gazebo or in front of Shamus). Please look for a staff member for guidance. Each section will be labeled with a letter, A through D, as well as color coded. Parking for participants will be at the Niagara County Courthouse. Only vehicles that are part of the parade will be allowed on the following streets: West Avenue, Hawley Street and Park Avenue.

Registration will be at 5:30 p.m. and the parade steps off at 7 p.m. Marchers should be picked up at the end of the parade route (Cornerstone Arena/Library Parking Lot).

Floats:

Floats will assemble on West Avenue and Park Avenue (the park is the split). From there, floats will be directed into the parade lineup.

Parade Officials:

Parade officials will be located at various checkpoints, starting at 5 p.m., for participants to check in or ask questions.

Weather:

The parade will be held rain or shine.

Restrictions and General Information

Forward Motion:
All parade participants are asked to stay in forward motion at all times to keep the parade moving along. This means no drills, counter marching or dancing that would alter or slow the movement and flow of the parade.

Animals/Horses:
All animals or horses in the parade must have proof of a rabies vaccination. Handlers are asked to provide their own scooper, and all horses must have a diaper.

Distribution of Items to Spectators:
Parade participants may hand out candy, coupons, balloons or leaflets. Please do not throw any items.

Alcohol/Smoking:
No alcohol use or smoking will be tolerated. In addition, any behavior detracting from the dignity of the parade will result in an immediate removal from the parade march.

• Outwater Park (near Stone Shelter)

• Dudley Square

• Upson Park and Scalzo Park – CLOSED

Bringing folding chairs is recommended.

Bathrooms will be available in City Hall.

Fireworks Timing:

7:30 p.m. Pine, Lock, Gooding and Ontario streets close for fireworks viewing

9:30 p.m. Fireworks begin

10:30 p.m. Closed streets reopen to traffic
