Code Blue in effect starting Jan. 25

With extreme cold temperatures in the forecast starting Friday, Jan. 25 and continuing through at least the end of the month, the City of Lockport Code Blue Warming Shelter is again opening for city residents in need.

The warming shelter will be open each day from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., and any homeless person or individual without heat may spend the evening at the Salvation Army facility, located at 50 Cottage St. in Lockport. The shelter will be available nightly through at least Saturday, Feb. 2, although that date may be extended depending upon forecast conditions.

Light refreshments and cots and blankets are available at the shelter to ensure all individuals are comfortable and safe. Doors to the shelter are locked each evening at 10 p.m., with police escort available for individuals until midnight.
