Police Department: Press Release Update

***PRESS RELEASE UPDATE***

SUMMARY: ON JUNE 12, 2023 AT 11:25 AM,

LOCKPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED ALONG WITH LOCKPORT FIRE DEPARTMENT TO THE LOCKPORT CAVE TOURS, 5 GOODING ST, FOR A BOAT THAT HAD CAPSIZED IN THE CAVE WHILE CARRYING A TOUR. UNITS RESPONDED AND IMMEDIATELY BEGAN WATER RESCUE EFFORTS TO GET 27 PASSENGERS AND ONE EMPLOYEE TO SAFETY. ONE PASSENGER BY THE NAME OF HARSHAH SHAH WAS UNABLE TO BE SAVED AFTER LIFE SAVING EFFORTS WERE MADE BY CREWS ONSITE AND WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD ONSCENE. THE OVERTURNED VESSEL WAS RETURNED TO ITS NORMAL POSISTION TODAY BY NIAGARA COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGMENT PERSONAL, NIAGARA COUNTY TACTICAL RESCUE TEAM, AND NIAGARA COUNTY UNDERWATER RECOVERY TEAM FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE INVESTIGATION OF THE INCIDENT IS STILL ONGOING AT THIS TIME BY THE LOCKPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE OFFICE OF THE NEW YORK STATE PARKS, RECREATION, AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION’S MARINE LAW ENFORCEMENT DIVISION.
