What: Railyard Skatepark Opening Ceremony
When: Saturday, April 20, 2024 12:00pm
Where: Outwater Memorial Park by the Community Pool off Corinthia St.
Lockport, New York
This project was funded under the Built to Play (BTP) Initiative matching grant, supported by The Skatepark Project (formerly, The Tony Hawk Foundation) and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. These organizations provided $300,000.00 to match $250,000.00 in local donations for the creation of the new facility at Lockport’s Outwater Memorial Park.
Lockport Community Services, Inc., a local nonprofit, has been the leader of the fiscal support campaign, development, and construction on behalf of former Mayor Michelle Roman, the City of Lockport, and the Friends of the Railyard Committee. Lockport City Officials formed a Skatepark Committee in 2019 to move this project from multiple phases to completion, with more details coming by this summer. This ceremony will highlight the park development process, its construction and recognition of the funding entities that have supported the effort to reach the goal of $550,000.00 to complete the state-of-the-art concrete park in November 2023.
Those funders and sponsors also include: The Grigg Lewis Foundation, Inc., Verizon Lockport Media Fund, Niagara River Greenway Commission/Niagara County, The John R. Oishei Foundation, City of Lockport, Greater Lockport Development Corporation, and others.

“We at the Skatepark Project are extremely proud to be a part of Lockport’s Public Skatepark effort. We are excited to continue to assist community advocates and municipal officials, and especially to see the positive impact this free recreational facility will have on the lives of young people in Lockport. This quality, permanent skatepark will be a great addition to the already amazing Outwater Memorial Park, and we can’t wait to come visit at the grand opening!” Trevor Staples, Director of Grants and Skatepark Development, The Skatepark Project.
