Refuse and Recycling Issues
∙ If Modern Disposal has not picked up the garbage and/or recycling at your home or business, please leave it at the curb. Equipment problems, manpower shortages, and other factors can sometimes delay service. Frequently, when the waste hauler falls behind, they can catch up later that same day or the next day, so it is best to leave your refuse/recycling carts out at the road. If the problem persists, however, please call Modern directly at 1-800-662-0012. If your problem is still not resolved, contact the City Clerk’s office at 439-6776
∙ Electronic recycling in the City of Lockport is held the first and third Saturday of each month, from 9am until 12noon, at the city parking lot on Outwater Drive by the park. Residents can drop off old TVs, computers, and other electronic waste. (New York State has prohibited the collection of electronics by any solid waste hauler, so these items cannot be placed at the curb).
∙ Yard waste is collected by the City from April through September during the third full week of each month. The final yard waste pickups this year will be the week of August 16th and the week of September 20th, on your regular garbage day. Yard waste should be in open containers or paper compostable bags, and should weigh no more than 50 lbs. Grass clippings will not be picked up.
∙ Bulk item pickup by Modern Disposal is the first full week of each month on your regular garbage day. Residents can place one bulk item (mattress, furniture, Freon-free appliance, four-foot lengths of carpeting) at the curb. Up to two additional items can be put out, however, by using bulk tags from the City Clerk’s office. They are available for $10.00 each.
∙ If you have more garbage than your refuse tote can accommodate, you can purchase extra bag tags at the City Clerk’s office for $2.00 each. These can be attached to garbage bags and then placed on the ground next to your refuse tote. Maximum bag size is 30 gallons and maximum weight is 30 pounds.
